Tesco Extra in Cardiff had an issue with their entrance road that was lifting, becoming a potential source of accidents and damage to vehicles.
The entrance road surface at Tesco Extra Pengham in Cardiff was heaving considerably, causing issues with noise for local residents and due to considerable height deviation there was potential for injury or damage to vehicles. The Mulberry team raised concerns that there was a potential chemical reaction occurring within the sub-base and carried out a ground penetrating radar survey along with the taking of core samples. Results were analysed to determine repair requirements that would be safe and built to required specifications.
Mulberry engaged with the Local Authority Highways & EHO departments,Tesco’s maintenance team and local residents to ensure that works were carried out in a safe and timely manner. Mulberry carried out a full
reconstruction of the area and engaged a UKAS approved test house to ensure compliance with the material manufacturers specification. The store is situated next to a busy road and a full traffic and pedestrian
management plan was put in place to keep the site safe for essential Tesco deliveries and the Mulberry team. Once complete, road-markings were applied to the surface before the store was reopened.
